Building an SEO Strategy: Is SEO a one-night stand?

by | May 16, 2025

Absolutely not!

If you want to build a lasting relationship, whether that’s with another person in your personal life or clients in your business life, it takes time and effort.

A one-night stand hive of activity might feel great while it lasts, but it won’t continue to attract the right people to your business, month after month.

SEO takes time. Regular time. But it doesn’t need to be time-consuming.

Little and often is the best SEO strategy to make sure you’re content keeps attracting your dream clients.

Google updates constantly, and fresh content wins. If you do it on a one-night stand basis, you’re competitors who optimise regularly will have the upper hand.

💡 Top Tip:

✅ Update your top blog posts every 3-6 months by adding fresh keywords, links, and insights. If you’re struggling for inspiration about how to update your posts, hit reply and I’ll give you some ideas.

When it comes to the length of your content, size does matter, but not necessarily in the way you may think.

Longer posts will only rank higher if they’re well-structured, informative and don’t ramble.

Google doesn’t care about word count. It cares about quality, which always wins over quantity.

💡 Top Tip:

Solve problems with your content and create clear and concise posts. Don’t be tempted to pad out your word count just to hit a higher number.

Learn how to build a simple SEO strategy

The most common reason small business owners don’t take action to improve their website’s visibility is feeling overwhelmed. This is usually caused by a lack of time and not knowing where to start.

Our to-do lists often have to-do lists of their own, and it can feel like we’re constantly fighting fire in our businesses at times. But if we don’t find time to work on our business rather than in it all of the time, things will never change. Making sure your website is visible to your dream clients is vital if you want your business to grow and continue to function when you’re taking time off.

A website that’s doing its job will attract your dream clients, show them you’re exactly what they’re looking for, that they can trust you and that what you sell will solve a problem they have.

Once you’ve built those strong foundations, you need to keep them updated.

SEO isn’t a one-night stand. It takes regular work. But that doesn’t need to feel overwhelming.

Make a clear plan about firstly, how much time you can allocate each week. Twenty minutes, two or three times a week, is fine.

Secondly, plan what areas you’re going to work on during each session. There’s no point in allocating time, particularly if it’s a small amount, if you don’t know what you’re going to work on.
