The client
Solidarity Farm CIC is a unique learning environment for children and young people located on a farm at the edge of the Northumberland National Park.
The problem
Solidarity Farm’s founder John Harrison wanted to create copy for the new website that reflected his passion for his work and the unique and special environment the farm provided for children and young people who struggle with mainstream education settings.
He had written the first draft but wanted some help and inspiration to get it more polished and in keeping with the vibe of the farm’s social media posts that showcase the fun and learning experienced by those who visit the farm.
John also wanted some ideas about making sure the website was visible and attracting the right people by using the keywords and phrases used by those looking for an alternative education provision in the North East.
The solution
John sent me the draft copy before our session so that I could go through it and start to make some suggestions. I also did some research about the words people use in search engines to look for alternative education provisions in the area.
During the call, we focused on the copy for the “Home” and “What We Do” pages to make sure the words reflected the amazing work the team at the farm do to support those children and young people who struggle in conventional classroom settings but thrive in a more open space that allows them the freedom to learn in a way that meets their needs.
We talked through certain sections of the copy and worked on changing parts so that the words flowed better and represented the farm’s vision and mission. We also discussed how to improve how easily the site attracted the attention of search engines by using the right words and how a blog section could be added in the future to showcase the farm’s work and how they support children and young people in the North East.
The outcome
John had website copy that showcased the amazing work the farm does to support those that visit. We made the changes during the call and I sent him the updated copy so that it was ready to be added to the new website when the design was finished. He also had ideas about how to improve the website’s SEO with new keywords and a better understanding of where to put them and the benefits of adding a blog or news section in the future.
John was pleased with the session and said “Very valuable power hour discussing and then actioning website content. Suzy was knowledgeable and able to help shape content that is engaging and will improve SEO.”
