I love to see women supporting women and this month’s inspiring businesswoman does this in droves. Tracy Butcher is the founder of Founder Mums Club, an online platform created to support mums who’ve set up their own businesses. Read on to learn about her first job, how she helps small business owners, and whether she’s a tea or coffee drinker.
What was your first job? Did you enjoy it?
My very first proper job (other than babysitting) was in the sweet shop on the parade! Taylor’s Newsagents! I loved it. My favourite bit was replenishing the penny sweets.
In those days, we had to add up the price of the fags, chocolate bars and newspapers in our heads! The pressure was intense (ha ha!) I used to really fancy a guy who came in for his papers and cigarettes and I used to get so flustered when he came in, I could never get the maths right – I probably over or undercharged him every time!
What do you do now? Is this what you originally trained to do?
These days I have two jobs!
I’m certified to teach Mindfulness and Meditation and am a certified performance coach. I use these skills to deliver corporate wellbeing and leadership training workshops and coaching. I also run mindfulness courses. You can find out more about this work at Hummingbird Coaching or find me on Instagram.
I also run the Founder Mums Club, a welcoming, supportive online community for mums who are founders of their own businesses at any stage. Whether you’re just starting out or have been going for 15+ years, you are welcome. The FMC provides a safe space to meet other mums in business, bounce ideas, ask advice, celebrate wins and support each other to stay sane. You can find out more about the Founder Mums Club membership on our website and Instagram.
I have a degree in Biochemistry – so no this isn’t what I originally trained to by a long shot.
How do your services help small business owners?
Members of the Founder Mums Club can attend weekly accountability sessions, where we start the week together and co-work virtually. We hold monthly Level Up Lunches, where we come together online and learn something new to help us grow our businesses and monthly Evening Wellbeing sessions, where the focus is on looking after ourselves.
Members also get access to our growing library of masterclasses and resources to help them grow and stay sane. The best bit, however, is simply the collaboration, coaching, mentoring and support that occurs between members.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve been given? How did it help you?
Don’t get sucked into a career because of the money! Do work that you enjoy and love. It stayed with me. It’s so easy to stay in miserable careers that pay well.
If you could give your 20-year-old self, one piece of career advice, what would it be?
Don’t be shy about asking for more money! You’re worth more than you think you are!
Which do you prefer, tea or coffee? Beach or pool? Seaside or countryside?
Tea everyday!
Beach please!
Tough one – today I’m all about the Seaside!
What’s your dream job or client?
My dream is to be the Founder of the biggest community for mums in business! Providing support to help mums grow their business and stay mentally well on their journey through regular connection and wellbeing resources.
